Entry & Patio Door
Situation
Entry and patio door manufacturers were pursuing a plastic extrusion manufacturer that could produce a variety of products for low-end to high-end entry and patio door systems.
Challenge
The product line for the entry and patio door manufacturers required a material that tolerated varying environmental conditions (including precipitation and sunlight). Aesthetic qualities were also important as the extruded pieces needed to compliment the entry and patio door itself. The product line included door frames, jambliners, headliners, and sashliners, among other products. The following requirements were presented to the Formtech Engineering Team:
- Various products and multiple material extrusions would need to be produced. The supplier needed to have the ability to build multiple tools, produce complex extrusions, and deliver products on time.
- The parts needed to have reliable quality and an appearance that complimented our customers’ doors. This was especially crucial on the high-end doors.
- Reliable lead times, quick delivery, and a high level of customer service were essential especially during the busy seasons.
Solution
In order to solve the challenges, Formtech’s Engineering Team presented the following solutions:
- Formtech’s capabilities in producing multiple material extrusions fit the needs of the industry. Our ability to produce co-extrusions allowed us to meet customer requirements, and our competencies with multiple materials (from PVC to green building materials to composite materials) allowed us to provide options that could handle the environmental conditions the parts faced.
- An ISO-compliant system and well-trained operators guaranteed the quality of the parts. In addition, we worked closely with our customer to develop the aesthetic qualities that were crucial to their systems. This provided our customers with the parts they desired.
- In-house warehouses in each location gave Formtech the ability to inventory products for quick delivery to its customers, no matter what season.
Results
Formtech was able to fulfill its customers’ needs:
- With our in-house tool & die department, Formtech’s engineers could quickly expedite tooling requests to produce unique tooling.
- Formtech was able to use its years of extrusion knowledge to develop multiple material extrusions, eliminating the need for several discrete extrusions.
