Sonic & Thermal Welding

Formtech has mastered sonic welding, a high speed, accurate assembly process for joining two components of similar polymer composition to one another without the use of adhesives.

With proper product design and engineered fixturing, cost effective, high-strength welded joints can be obtained, which can result in lower assembled unit costs. Using Formtech’s patented process, it is possible to produce sonically welded assemblies in two planes at the same time. This makes it possible to attach components at the end of extrusions to perform sealing or other functions, or produce high performance corner attachments where high strength is required.

Formtech has also developed skills in thermal welding. Utilizing a sophisticated four corner heated plate process, thermal welding can be used to manufacture frames and lite surrounds with high strength, welded corner joints. Length and width dimensions are controllable within relatively exact tolerances with excellent reproducibility.
