Nearly 50 Years of Extrusion Expertise

Formtech Enterprises, Inc. was founded in May 1970 in Akron, Ohio.  The company produced foamed PVC moldings and custom plastic extrusions.  Formtech focused on helping companies solve product and manufacturing challenges.

In the early 1970s, Formtech attempted co-extrusion (or extruding two different materials into a single product).  Formtech extruded materials like rigid and flexible PVC into one shape.  This improved the product’s use, appearance, or cost.  Several markets, including energy conservation, saw a benefit from this exciting development.  Formtech also entered other markets, including office furniture and windows and doors.

In 1981, the company moved to a larger plant in nearby Stow, Ohio.  Here, Formtech continued developing new skills, including manufacturing with twin-screw extruders and producing products made with wood plastic composite materials

As the geographical base of Formtech’s customers expanded, Formtech expanded, too.  In 1988, Formtech opened a new facility near Athens, Georgia, about 60 miles northeast of Atlanta.  This plant allowed Formtech to service customers in the south more effectively.  Like the Stow plant, the Athens plant focused on twin-screw technologies and materials including wood plastic composites and PVC.  This plant also developed new innovations by extruding four materials into one product, developing large plastic shapes, and performing complex fabrication

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Formtech made several acquisitions to expand its capabilities.  For example, Formtech acquired the Yates Company, located in Erie, PA.  This acquisition allowed Formtech to gain expertise in extruding clear plastic profiles with exceptional clarity.  Companies in the electrical or retail display industry use these clear products.  In addition, this plant extruded materials such as polyethylene, polycarbonate, and polystyrene

In 2006, Formtech moved from Erie to a new plant in nearby Fairview, Pennsylvania.  This plant, located off interstate 90, provided quick access to nearby cities like Cleveland, OH, Buffalo, NY and Pittsburgh, PA.

Today, Formtech operates its manufacturing plants in Athens, Georgia and Fairview, Pennsylvania.   As Formtech approaches its 50th birthday, we are excited to continue helping customers solve their product and manufacturing challenges.  We remain committed to innovating, delivering high-quality, plastic extrusions, and ensuring that our customers are 100% satisfied with every order.
